LSPCA has embarked on a project aimed at improving the welfare of chickens during transportation. The project addresses the chicken welfare concerns that are associated with the commonmethod of transporting chickens. This involves attaching chickens upside down to the handles of bicycles. This malpractice causes broken wings and legs, heatstroke and stress.
As a pilot, LSPCA is testing different types of crates and methods for carrying chickens on bikes. LSPCA is working closely with the transporters themselves to ensure that recommended improvements are beneficial for the chickens, widely accepted by the transporters, as well as feasible for the transporters to purchase.

We want to make a difference and help people to understand that animals are sentient beings, they can feel pain, and we have a responsibility to care for them.
